What is a rodeo? The rodeo is a sport derived from American cowboys, wherein players compete in various variable riding and roping contests. It was built, in part, to bring attention to the cattle industry in North America—primarily in Mexico, the United States, and western Canada – but this sport is known globally. Today, they hold at least 100 college rodeos annually, organizing nearly 4,000 students from 135 colleges. Many rodeos today have five core components: saddle-bronc riding, calf roping, bareback bronc riding, steer wrestling, and bull riding. Two of these events are based on cowboys’ practical work back in the day. Other events, such as trick riding, are crowd-pleasers but are not part of many rodeos. The National Finals Rodeo (NFR) is the premier rodeo competition by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). The NFR showcases the talents of the PRCA’s top 15 money-winners in the season for each event. The NFR is held each year in the first week of December at the Thomas & Mack Center on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus, in Paradise, Nevada, United States. Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) is a known bull-riding organization in Pueblo, Colorado, in the United States. PBR events have been showcased on CBS and CBS Sports Network in the U.S. Since 2012. A partnership agreement was signed between PBR and CBS in 2013, which solidified CBS Sports as the broadcaster of PBR events. In 2018, PBR introduced RidePass. A subscription-based video-on-demand service that streams live PBR events and productions for sports organizations. On July 20, 2021, RidePass transitioned from a subscription model to a streaming channel supported by ads on Pluto TV. The PBR community comprises over 500 cowboys from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, and others.
